PlayStation Plus has three tiers, and each includes everything in the tier below it. The real decision is how far up the ladder to climb — and whether to pay monthly or yearly.
Essential
Essential is the entry tier. It unlocks online multiplayer for most PS5 and PS4 games, a set of monthly games you can claim and keep playing while subscribed, cloud storage for saves, and member discounts on the PlayStation Store.
Extra
Extra adds the Game Catalogue: hundreds of downloadable PS5 and PS4 games you can play while subscribed, plus Ubisoft+ Classics. Games rotate in and out. Sony has said new PS4 additions will be less frequent as it focuses on PS5 titles.
Premium
Premium adds the Classics Catalogue (PS1, PS2 and PSP games to download, and PS3 games via cloud streaming), cloud streaming of supported PS5 and catalogue games, and time-limited trials of selected new releases. In regions without cloud streaming, a similar tier is sold as Deluxe.
Prices in 2026
On 20 May 2026 Sony raised the price of 1-month and 3-month plans; 12-month plans were not changed. In the US, Essential now costs $10.99 a month. Annual prices remain $79.99 (Essential), $134.99 (Extra) and $159.99 (Premium). Because monthly prices went up while annual prices did not, paying yearly is now clearly the cheapest way to subscribe.

Which tier is right for you?
- You play one or two online games: Essential.
- You want a big library to explore: Extra — the best value for most players.
- You love retro games or want streaming and trials: Premium.
Tips
Upgrading mid-subscription charges a pro-rated fee for the remaining time, so you do not lose what you have paid for. Sony often discounts PS Plus during major PlayStation Store sales, which is a good time to renew or upgrade. Always check the PlayStation Store in your country for current pricing.
