Forza Horizon 6 launched on 19 May 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it finally delivers what fans asked for over many years: a Horizon festival set in Japan. Here is what you need to know before you start.
Platforms and Game Pass
The game is available on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, including on Steam, and through Xbox Cloud Gaming. As an Xbox Game Studios release it joined Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on launch day. Microsoft has confirmed a PlayStation 5 version will follow later in 2026, but no release date had been announced when we checked.
The setting
Playground Games built a Japan that mixes dense city streets — including a detailed Tokyo — with rural roads, mountains and coastline. The world changes with the seasons, including winter and cherry-blossom season, which alters both the look and the driving conditions.
Cars and content
Official launch materials describe around 550 cars at launch. As with previous Horizon games, there are additional paid content options such as car packs and planned expansions; these require the base game or an eligible Game Pass subscription.
Tips for your first hours
- Spend time in the settings: assists, difficulty and the Drivatar level all affect how the game feels.
- Try different seasons before settling on a favourite car — handling on wet and snowy roads changes a lot.
- On PC, check the recommended specs on the store page and use the in-game benchmark to set graphics options.
- If you play through Game Pass, you keep your progress if you later buy the game.
Is it worth playing?
If you enjoyed Forza Horizon 5 or open-world racing in general, the Japan setting alone makes Horizon 6 worth trying — and Game Pass subscribers can do so at no extra cost. PlayStation players will need to wait for the PS5 version.
